Glenveagh National Park is delighted to be supporting Wainfest this year, working together with Donegal County Council, Climate Action Week and Robert Vaughan. Object of the Month

This month’s object is a wooden heat screen. It originally belonged to Henry McIlhenny, the last private owner of Glenveagh Castle, here in Glenveagh National Park. During the Eighteenth and early Nineteenth Centuries, women would often wear thick wax-based make-up. Portable heat screens such as this one would prevent the wax from melting and dripping

New Signage

This month’s object is an Eighteenth Century marble bust of Gaius Marius, a well-known Roman general and senator. It was originally purchased by Henry McIlhenny the last private owner of Glenveagh Castle here in Glenveagh National Park.

Music at the Castle on a Sunday

Join us here at Glenveagh National Park throughout July and August for traditional Irish music performed by local musicians at Glenveagh Castle.

Object of the Month – June 2025

This month’s object is an unusual looking chair. It is a weighing chair originally used to weigh jockeys before a horse race. It now sits in the Entrance Hall at Glenveagh Castle. As a joke, the last private owner of the Castle, Henry McIlhenny would ask his guests to be weighed on arrival and then
