Irish Heath in Bloom
Irish Heath (Erica erigena, Fraoch Camógach) also known as Mediterranean Heath, is one of approximately 15 plants known as Lusitanian flora. The plants in this collection are originally from the north of Spain and Portugal, and in Ireland they are found in the west and south of the country. Although, is it not likely that they survived the last Ice Age, there is no definitive account of how they are here in Ireland. Also notable is their absence from Britain
Nonetheless the presence of this wonderment provides a beautiful splash of colour to Claggan Mountain here in Wild Nephin National Park
