Public Consultation Open

The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) in partnership with Fáilte Ireland are delighted to launch the public consultation phase for the draft Visitor Experience and Development Plan for Glenveagh National Park.
The development of this Plan marks the beginning of a time of reflection and renewal for Glenveagh which was first established in 1975. The National Park designation brings with it a recognition of the need for Glenveagh to lead in conservation management, visitor services, nature education and habitat enhancement and restoration. The aim of this Plan is to further develop Glenveagh as an iconic heritage site while ensuring strong sustainable principles and ensuring high-quality visitor services.
To ensure that any adverse impacts to the environment that may arise from the plan are mitigated, NPWS has commissioned a draft Natura Impact Statement and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) of the Draft Visitor Experience and Development Plan. These assessments are required by European Directive 2001/42/EC and Irish Law SI 435 of the 2004 Planning and Development SEA) Regulations amended by SI 201 of the 2011 Planning and Development (SEA)(Amendment) Regulations. All the documents are available for public consultation and comment from 14th March to 25th April and are available for public review in Glenveagh National Park and on-line on the Department’s website via this link: www.gov.ie/GlenveaghVisitorPlan. In addition, there will be two dedicated drop in days with a live presentation at 2pm on Saturday the 15th March and Saturday 29th March.
We look forward to hearing your views on the future of Glenveagh National Park.
